- 1/3 cup (75 mL) pot or pearl barley
- 1/3 cup (75 mL) wild rice
- 2 cups (500 mL) beef, vegetable or chicken broth, divided
- 1/3 cup (75 mL) brown rice
- ¼ tsp (1 mL) pepper
In a medium saucepan, combine barley and wild rice with half of the broth; bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat and simmer for 25 minutes. Add brown rice and remaining broth. Continue to simmer for 25 minutes, adding additional broth or water, if necessary. Season to taste with pepper.
