Round ‘em up and feed ‘em some good ol’ fashioned slow cooked beef. This wonderful Beer Braised Beef on a Bed of Barley is a perfect Stampede food. It can be made ahead of time and simmered low and slow to ensure a melt in your mouth treat. The beer in the recipe helps to tenderize the beef and adds a delightful flavour.
Barley, when used as your starch, is a tasty and filling accompaniment. The beef broth adds just enough flavour that your guests may want to just have a plate of barley. Of course any leftover barley can be used in salads or casseroles as well.
Beer Braised Beef on a bed of barley brings the true Stampede spirit to life, using local ingredients to that highlight Alberta’s great beef, beer and grain industries.
Make sure to come visit me at Stampede either July 7 at 2:30 p.m. or July 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the Calgary Co-op Kitchen Theatre in Halls D and E of the BMO Centre. You can catch me at those times cooking up a few different summer delights, including this one!
